How to Reduce Water Consumption This Fall?
September 18, 2019Reducing your water consumption doesn’t just reduce your utility bills. Even small efforts to use less water helps in the worldwide efforts to conserve usable freshwater, which is slowly becoming scarce on a global scale.
In today’s post, your trusted gutter contractor, Gutter Helmet® of Eastern NY, shares a few tips on reducing water consumption this fall.
Be Strategic About Watering Your Plants
Don’t water your plants in the middle of the day. When the sun is high up and the temperature is warm, most of the water you use to water the plants will just end up evaporating. It’s best to water the plants in the morning or evening. Also, make sure you’re watering the plants and grass, not the driveway. If you use an automatic sprinkler system, be sure it’s turned off on rainy days.
Check Your Toilets and Other Plumbing Fixtures for Leaks
Toilets and other plumbing fixtures can leak without you noticing, which is why it’s important to check them for leaks from time to time. Any leaks you find should be repaired as soon as possible
Consider Rainwater Harvesting
You can collect rainwater by investing in rain barrels that are placed under your gutters. This water can be used to water your plants on days when it’s not raining. Clean gutters with Gutter Helmet systems are the best source of collected rainwater.
Be Shower-Savvy
You can also conserve water while showering. Try to shorten your shower time, and turn off the water while shampooing or shaving.
