2 Styles of Seamless Gutters and Their Advantages
April 23, 2019While traditional gutters are made in sections, seamless gutters are formed from a single piece of metal, making them less prone to leaks. They are particularly effective at directing water away from your home during heavy rainfall. Compare seamless gutters vs. traditional gutters here.
In this post, your local gutter contractor, Gutter Helmet of Eastern NY discusses two different styles of seamless gutters and their advantages.
K-Style Gutters
Also known as “ogee” gutters, K-style gutters are the most popular type of gutter in America. When viewed from the side, these gutters resemble the letter “K”. They appear like a stylish crown molding usually found on interior ceilings, making them a top choice for modern homes.
K-style gutters can hold more water than to half-round gutters. They can be made onsite prior to gutter installation if your contractor has a portable gutter-making machine. Their structure makes them stronger despite being built from light material and they can endure larger impacts. However, their sharp edges can catch debris and they are harder to clean.
Half-Round Gutters
Half-round gutters look like a fully enclosed pipe divided in half. They have curled-top outer edges on both sides. They come in various colors and can be installed in sections or as a seamless gutter. The smooth structure of these gutters reduces the chances of corrosion and allows waterborne debris to flow easily since the system has no rough edges. They are also easier to clean than K-style gutters.
You should keep in mind that half-round gutters are not as readily available. They also hold less water compared to K-style gutters despite having a similar width. Since they are made from heavier materials, they require more support.
